BIOGRAPHY
Joe D’Emilio is a New York based lighting designer for theatre, opera and dance. Recent NYC designs include Brooklyn Abridged (Bindlestiff Family Cirkus), Aftershocks (NYTF Winterfest), A Lovely Damaged Quality (NYTF Summerfest), and Siren's Den (Miller-Coffman Productions). Prior to NYC he lived for nine years in San Francisco. Notable Bay Area credits include: Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Lizzie, The Wild Party, Heathers The Musical, Triassic Parq, and Carrie (Ray of Light Theatre), Into the Woods, West Side Story (Broadway By the Bay) and The Letters (Aurora Theatre Company).
Joe also has toured as the Lighting Director for the American circus company Cirque Mechanics for the past four years. He is a co-designer for the company’s most recent show 42ft: A Menagerie of Mechanical Marvels, which premiered in Las Vegas in fall of 2018 before hitting the road. The show went on to perform at NYC’s New Victory Theater in December 2019 .
Joe also spent five years as a Project Manager for the SF based production company Got Light. During his time he has managed and assisted with the setup and execution of numerous high-profile events all over the Bay Area. These include VIP Weddings and parties, Super Bowl 50 Host Committee functions, and Annual Fundraising Galas for the SF Symphony, SF Opera, SF Ballet and almost every museum in San Francisco.
Joe is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Technical Theatre and Design from San Francisco State University.
